Which length of sock for everyday wear is the best?

I was trying to buy a set of new socks to replace my worn out Hanes X-temp whites, and didn't realize there were different options for ankle socks. Crew was too long but the ones Amazon shipped me were too short. It looked like I wasn't wearing socks at all. Bare ankles. Through trial and error I finally got the ankle length I wanted, but wondered what you guys typically wear?

I'm an ankle/spring-summer , over the calf/fall-winter guy.

I usually go heel shield or no show this time of year unless I’m wearing my Sperry’s and then I don’t wear socks with them at all.
In Winter I’m a “above the calf up to the knee” guy….😁

Heel shield bombas or no shows year round. I probably wear something longer maybe 20 days a year because I have no choice…suit, business casual, etc.

Once it gets to spring through late fall I don’t wear shoes unless I’m going to church or exercising. When I do wear socks I’d say the low cut are my preference. The trend seems to be the no show but those don’t seem to provide enough coverage for exercising.

I can't wear no-show because I have a bone spur on the back of my heel that needs cushioning.
I've also been switching to merino wool from black Hanes X-temp as they wear out because the new X-temp socks suck. Hanes changed the materials in them and they are now much thinner.
Crew length seems to be popular again with the young kids which I find pretty funny. That would get you beat up when I was in HS.

Either crew or heel shield mostly. If I'm wearing jeans, khakis, or dress pants, I'm putting on crew socks with my boots. Heel shields for the Sport Mode. Shorts, sneakers, running shoes. Ideal for working out or being comfortable at work on lazy or hot days. Balega makes really good heel shield socks that insanely comfortable and soft! I honestly can't own enough of them. I will sometimes wear no-shows if I'm dressing more casually for a nice outing. But then they slide around and my heels get rubbed raw if I'm walking a lot.
